Invincible creator Robert Kirkman believes the Prime Video adaptation could last for “seven, eight, nine” seasons.
After four seasons of dense story and incredible action, Prime Video’s animated adaptation of Invincible still has more than enough scope for more seasons. In fact, it’s not even close to adapting 144 issues of the main run of comics. After Season 4, Invincible has now adapted up to issue #78, and a little of #79.
Not only is Invincible adapting the comics, but it’s also building on storylines and new content, such as Season 4, Episode 3 ‘HURM,’ which told an original story featuring the returning Damien Darkblood. Between adapting the entirety of the comics, as well as original stories, creator Robert Kirkman believes the series has scope for “seven, eight, nine” seasons.
Of course, the series is known for balancing multiple storylines at once; there’s always new villains, returning villains, and periphery threats. Mark Grayson constantly has his work cut-out, from on-Earth threats to the overarching Viltrumite War. And like the return of Damien Darkblood, a storyline that was left in the dark for a couple of seasons, the series will never forget about looming stories. “We’re not gonna start stories in this show with the plan of not continuing them and concluding them within the confines of this show,” he told The Wrap, teasing: “We’ll be touching on The Order plenty in future seasons, so there should be no fear.”
When does Invincible return for Season 5?
While Prime Video has not officially renewed Invincible for a fifth season (and beyond), a formal announcement feels inevitable. The good news? After four seasons, the production has become extremely streamlined, resulting in the show hitting its target of one new season each year.
“We’ve hit our window and we’re gonna keep hitting the window,” Kirkman told The Brandon Davis Show. “You should be able to watch the show — if we’re fortunate enough to continue beyond Season 5 — every year is the ideal.”

While fans wait for Invincible to return, the series continues in comics through Kirkman’s series Invincible Universe: Battle Beast, which follows the fan-favorite intergalactic warrior as he traverses the universe in search of an opponent worthy of giving him an honourable death. Battle Beast has been collected into a 5-issue Volume 1, and continues to release monthly from Image Comics.
