Scott Snyder Teases Major ‘Absolute Universe’ Crossover Event “Coming in 2027 Into 2028”
Absolute Batman writer Scott Snyder confirms that plans are in place for a big story between the Absolute heroes and our mainline heroes, and assures that the event won’t end the Absolute Universe.
There’s perhaps no comic book continuity quite as hot as DC’s Absolute Universe right now. The series kicked off back in October 2024 with Absolute Batman by Scott Snyder and Nick Dragotta, completely re-imagining the character’s mythos from the ground up. The continuity also began with two other tentpole series, Absolute Superman and Absolute Wonder Woman. Since then, we’ve had plenty of other runs, including Absolute Martian Manhunter, Absolute Green Arrow, Absolute Green Lantern, and so on.
These comics are downright dominating month-on-month sales charts, proving that demand is not an issue. Absolute Batman alone has already seen a myriad of reprints, and the first twenty issues are coming back to stores for another reprint.
Looking ahead to the future of the Absolute Universe, overseer Scott Snyder sees ample opportunity for big events and further crossovers. One thing that’s poised to happen at some point is a story where the Absolute heroes meet the mainstream heroes. It seems like all roads are leading to that outcome. In fact, we’ve already seen a crossover in DC:KO #4. And for what lies beyond that, Snyder says there is a story planned where the two universes meet. “We have a story where these two universes have to meet,” he said in a recent interview with Charli Romero. “It’s coming in 2027 into 2028, but I want to be very clear it is not going to interfere with the Absolute Universe or really the books you love in the main universe, and it is definitely not in any way going to end the Absolute Universe.”
The future of the Absolute Universe is secured as fans keep on picking up the comics, and momentum is still carrying the Absolute Universe forward in 2026. “The Absolute Universe will continue as long as people love it and are reading it,” Snyder said.
So far, Absolute titles have consistently been the best-selling comics for four months this year: Absolute Batman Ark-M Special #1 (January), Absolute Batman #17 (February), Absolute Batman #20 (May), and Absolute Batman #21 (June).
