In the world of fandom, some of the greatest love stories ever told are the ones that—technically—never actually happened. Here’s 5 ships we think should’ve been canon.
Something all of us know… tension. Characters destined to be together, yet forced to live as just “friends” or on the sidelines of each other’s lives. Why don’t we see it? Is it better to have the “what if,” or is it just networks getting cold feet? Whether you have been queerbaited or not, here are some characters I reckon should have been a thing.
SUPERGIRL – Lena and Kara

This pairing was a top pick over the years the show aired, especially with lesbian and neurodivergent audiences. Kara represented the bubbly “golden retriever” girl and Lena the smooth, sophisticated CEO. They very much fit those stereotypes, not to mention the blue and red coloring that we often associate with couple aesthetics.
SHERLOCK – Watson and Sherlock

Iconic, well-known, and fiercely loved, this dynamic duo is basically already a couple, let’s be honest. They have so much on-screen compatibility that it is almost impossible to see them as anything other than the amazing relationship that they already are—just with some extra flair.
PITCH PERFECT – Beca and Chloe

Needless to say, this duo was shipped from the very first time we saw them in that iconic shower scene. A “black cat and happy-go-lucky” pairing, the chemistry for these two is only enhanced by the all-girls group they are part of and the college experience of “finding stuff out.”
MERLIN – Arthur and Merlin

Chaos. This medieval pair gives banter a whole new meaning. That love only comes from someone knowing you so intimately your triggers are no longer as bad as they seemed. Finishing each other’s sentences and food—servant or not, they were there for each other in that “forbidden love” kind of way.
HAWKEYE – Kate and Yelena

Could we be at the point where Marvel Studios makes the first-ever lesbian lead couple? It may be a strong ask, but we are definitely leaning into that territory with a lot of the new additions to our favorite franchise, and we can’t rule out any possible hope for this pairing to be at the forefront. Kate has the perfect mix of innocent charm and recklessness, as Yelena does with her brightly colored clothing and way with words; yet, they both resemble resilience and determination in a way not many others possess.
