The Batman Part II: Sebastian Stan teases his “nervous” transformation into Two-Face

Sebastian Stan teases that he plays “many roles” in The Batman: Part II, a clear nod to his portrayal of Harvey Dent/Two-Face.

Matt Reeves’ The Batman: Part II boasts one of the greatest casts ever assembled for a comic book movie, especially for DC. Marking the return of Robert Pattinson as the titular caped crusader, we’re also seeing the arrival of Sebastian Stan and Scarlett Johansson as Harvey Dent and Glinda Dent, as well as returning stars Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Colin Farrell as the Penguin, Jayme Lawson as Mayor Bella Reál, Gil Perez-Abraham as Officer Martinez, and Barry Keoghan as Joker.

Sebastian Stan is already well-known for his portrayal of Bucky Barnes, aka The Winter Soldier in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a role he’s been playing for 15 years and one that made him a household name among geeks. He’s joining DC in Reeves’ The Batman: Part II alongside fellow MCU veteran Scarlett Johansson, who plays Black Widow in the Marvel Universe.

In the sequel, he plays Harvey Dent, a District Attorney who finds himself at the end of an attack by mobster  Sal “Boss” Maroni, who acid in his face, completely scarring the left side. Assuming the monicker Two-Face, he becomes one of the most notable villains in Batman’s rogues gallery. Stan’s role marks the third time the character has been played in live-action on the big screen. Previous performers include Tommy Lee Jones in Batman Forever (1995) and, perhaps most famously, Aaron Eckhart in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight (2008).

We don’t know too much about Stan’s portrayal of Harvey Dent yet, but the actor is feeling the pressure to deliver a big performance. “‘I’m excited, I’m nervous and trying to keep surprising myself,” Stan teased at Cannes, per Deadline. He added that the make-up team have “devised how his disfigurement will look,” but we still don’t have a first-look of him suited up.

The Batman: Part II releases on 1 October 2027. Production on the sequel is currently underway in the United Kingdom, with filming returning to Liverpool. Scenes are being shot outside the iconic St. George’s Hall (which we previously saw the funeral of Gotham City’s fallen mayor, Don Mitchell Jr., take place.). It also shot scenes inside the Queensway Tunnel, suggesting another epic car chase.
