The first New Comic Book Day of August 2026 is just around the corner, and it’s stacked with massive universe-shifting issues, highly anticipated indie debuts. Here’s the biggest titles coming our way!

Prepare yourselves, comic fans! August 2026 is another mammoth month of big releases, and it all begins this Wednesday with Marvel and DC dropping landmark issues, new story-lines and more. Plus, indie publishers have you covered with Marvel actress Iman Vellani making her indie debut, as well as a returning best-selling issue based on a killer IP. What’s not to love?

Below, we’ve listed 8 of the biggest new comic book releases hitting shelves on Wednesday, August 5. Let’s take a tour.

Fantastic Four #15

It’s the 65th Anniversary of the Fantastic Four, and Marvel Comics is pulling out all the stops with an extra-large, extra-fantastic adventure, starring everyone’s favorite adventurers, spanning centuries of history and a universe of scientific progress!

The Fantastic Four have been defeated: With their personal arrows of time reversed, they’re careening into the past with no hope of salvation – unless a complete stranger can find out what they need. But even if she does, that will only get them halfway home, because there’s still a threat in the present that’s waiting to kill them – and that’s IF they can arrive there alive! This is one issue you won’t want to miss – because you’ll have to wait 65 years for anythinglike it.

This landmark issue comes from writer Ryan North, penciller Humberto Ramos, inker Victor Olazaba, colorist Edgar Delgado, and letterer Joe Caramagna.

What If…? Captain America #1

Everyone loves a What If…? story, and Marvel is particularly good at them. This one comes from the esteemed creative team of Marc Guggenheim and X-MEN 2099 legend, Ron Lim. They explore an alternate reality in which Captain America was revived in the year 2099.

CAPTAIN AMERICA’s time during World War II ended with him frozen in ice, out of commission for decades. In the 616 , he was revived and joined with fellow heroes THE AVENGERS. But what if he missed the HEROIC AGE altogether? What evils would rise without the Sentinel of Liberty?

Vampirella vs. Red Sonja: Red City #1

Written by multi-Ringo and multi-Eisner Award winning writer Chuck Brown and Illustrated by Paulo H. Mel (Transformers: Song of Jupiter, We Wicked Ones), this issue takes us back into the Red City. 

With the help of the heroic Dyna Might, Vampirella and Red Sonja must work together to escape the city of nightmares and return home.

Batman #12

DC’s Absolute Universe might be taking all the headlines for the publisher in recent years, but there’s also several other ongoing series going super well. Perhaps most notably is Batman (2925-) from Matt Fraction and Jorge Jimenez, which introduces Verity Pennyworth into the fold!

Six of the world’s deadliest killers have descended on Gotham City at once — but who hired them, and who’s the target? Surely, it can’t be the Batman. As the Caped Crusader races to uncover who set this deadly plan in motion, the late Alfred Pennyworth provides a gift from beyond the grave with the arrival of a brilliant new ally to the Bat-Family at a time when it needs one most.

Absolute Superman #22

The Get Brainiac arc begins here, folks! This arc from Jason Aaron and artist Juan Ferreyra takes us all the way to issue #25.

Superman will stop at nothing to see the universe’s most vicious madman brought to justice. But before he can get his hands on Brainiac, Superman will have to go through Metallo, a man with Kryptonite in his veins.

Absolute Green Arrow #17

No one escapes! From Al Ewing and Sid Kotian, Sinestro’s might has overwhelmed Jo Mullein and Tomar Re — can the two anomalies overcome his brutal onslaught, or will they be lost to Oa and become one with Mu?!

Ben 10 #4

After a ridiculously good beginning, Dynamite Entertainment’s Ben 10 comic returns with a new writer for its fourth installment, with Man of Action’s Steven T. Seagle taking hold of the reins to pen this issue, which introduces XLR8 and Stinkfly.

In a rainy Northwest stop on their endless summer vacation, the Tennyson family is drawn to a circus where the crowds aren’t cheering, the clowns aren’t laughing, and the ringmaster has plans for a frightful future well beyond his broken big top. Can Ben master the Omnitrix in time to find the right alien to stop the bizarre ZOMBOZO from making Grandpa Max his next death-defying act? A new, twisted two-part adventure begins here – including the debut appearances of XLR8 and Stinkfly!

Chachu #1

Before MCU star Iman Vellani returns in Avengers: Doomsday, she is first making her debut foray into indie comics with new, neo-noir, private investigator series Chachu, coming to Image Comics in August. The 5-issue limited series is written by Vellani, illustrated by Marianna Ignazzi (Exquisite Corpses, Self Help) and colored by Jordie Bellaire (Absolute Wonder Woman, Redlands).

Set in 1979, Chachu follows Leila, a 19-year-old Pakistani-Canadian girl with a penchant for film and pulp novels, who travels to California hoping to connect with her estranged uncle—her “Chachu”—a middle-aged, semi-retired private eye once famous for marrying the starlet he was initially hired to find. But when his wife mysteriously vanishes once again, the two are forced on an impromptu road trip investigation that transforms her first taste of adulthood into a thrilling confrontation of family secrets, unresolved grief, and the fantasies both she and Chachu have built their lives around.
