Scott Snyder recently revealed that he’s seen the pilot for the Wytches animated series, and he’s “really proud” of how it’s turned out.
Over a decade after Scott Snyder and Jock unleashed one of the greatest horror comics of all-time, they’re seeing the story come to life in an upcoming animated series at Prime Video. Of course, the streamer already has a stories history with comic book adaptations, not least animated series. Look no further than Invincible, which is one of the greatest superhero shows in the universe. Bringing Wytches, a series described as “a triumph” by horror legend Stephen King, to animation is a very interesting prospect indeed.
First published in 2014, Wytches is widely regarded as one of the biggest triumphs of horror comics. Created by writer Scott Snyder and artist Jock, the series follows the Rooks family, who escape past trauma and move to a remote New Hampshire town to carve out new lives. However, they soon learn that the woods on the edge of their new town are inhabited by ancient “wytches” that feed on people who are pledged to them.
The animated adaptation has been in the works for some time now. Of course, animation takes time. And given that it’s set to closely align with Jock’s gorgeous, ethereal artwork, the level of detail and craftsmanship will no doubt be incredible. “We’ve got ‘Wytches’ going. We’re still in production, finishing the animatics for the first season. It’s going great. I’m really, really excited about it and can’t wait for you to see it,” Snyder shared back in 2025.
“Driven by the pairing of Scott and Jock along with our partners at Plan B and Project 51 Productions, ‘Wytches’ fuses nail biting horror and evocative drama while unearthing the dark lore surrounding an ancient burrow of witches,” said, Melissa Wolfe, head of animation for Amazon Studios, back when the series was announced. “Given the haunting and intimate nature of Scott and Jock’s well regarded comic series, we are looking forward to delivering their creative vision to our global audience and expanding our growing roster of animated series.”
More recently, Snyder took to X to share that he’s seen the pilot, revealing that he’s super “proud” of what the team has put together. “We just got our pilot back from the studio this week! Literally Watched it last night – really really proud of this one,” he wrote. “Trying to figure out when we can say more about the cast, teaser stuff all of it.”

There’s still so much we don’t know about Prime Video’s Wytches adaptation. We’ll keep you posted whenever we get casting news and first looks. Prime Video has not set a release date yet, but we expect to see Wytches arrive sometime in 2026. Surely Halloween would be the perfect time to share it with the world, right?
