The Walking Dead Universe returns this summer with Dead City Season 3, continuing the journey of Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) in Manhattan.

The Walking Dead has had a quiet start to 2026, but AMC’s beloved zombie franchise will return to our screens this summer for Dead City Season 3. It’ll then return for its the final season of Daryl Dixon’s Europe-hopping spinoff in the fall.

No release date has been set for Dead City Season 3, which will mark the return of unlikely duo Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Megan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) as they traverse a zombie-infested Manhattan and find themselves tangled with the various factions of survivors that live there. The season wrapped filming in December 2025, and will return to our screens this year. Now, thanks to a report from Variety, it has been confirmed that Dead City hits our screens this summer.

The show will open the 65th edition of the Open Monte-Carlo Television Festival from June 12 to 16 with the international premiere of the first two episodes. Both Morgan and Cohan will be in attendance, as well as showrunner Seth Hoffman.

The summer release window is one thing, but a specific release date is quite another. On that note, AMC has not set a release date, although the network will be airing Interview with the Vampire season 3 on June 7, and it’s unlikely that it’ll air concurrently with Dead City. This gives the Walking Dead spinoff a speculative release date of August — perhaps around mid-August, which is when Tales of The Walking Dead aired in 2022.

We expect The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 4 to continue in the franchise’s traditional October spot. The spinoff has wrapped post-production. Star Norman Reedus has already waved his goodbyes a while back.

Will The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 3 be the final season?

After this year, the Walking Dead franchise officially has no other projects in active development. Right now, Daryl Dixon Season 4 is confirmed to be the final season, and Dead City is yet to be renewed. This puts the entire TWD Universe in its most precarious state yet; for the last 15 years, the franchise has always had something in the pipeline.

Right now, AMC has not announced that Daryl Dixon will return for another season. The Manhattan setting still has plenty of scope to explore more story, but it’s possible that the TWD Universe team could explore other opportunities, not least a requisite spinoff uniting the original characters. This is not out of the question, especially with franchise overseer Scott M. Gimple teasing a potential project converging the spinoffs.
