Karl Urban doubles down on the shock value promised by the Season 5 finale of The Boys: “Everything is coming to a climax.”

If Prime Video’s The Boys has promised one thing over the years, it’s that fans will forever be in for a shock. Even when we brace for impact, it somehow manages to dial up the shocks, vulgarity, and gore. As the final season races towards its finale, star Karl Urban (Billy Butcher) has assured that fans are in for the shock of their lives.

So far in its final season, The Boys is delivering big; no character is safe, and plot armour is pretty much out of the window. Showrunner Eric Kripke takes a no-holds-barred approach. Homelander (Anthony Starr) has declared himself God… literally, and he’s sparing absolutely nobody. Look no further than how he brashly executed Firecracker.

As for what’s coming in the finale, the show will reach its climax in true The Boys style. But don’t take it from us. “People can expect the stakes to be raised. People can expect to be shocked. No character is safe. Everything is coming to a crunch and everything is coming to a climax,” Karl Urban teased to SquareMile. “This season, Butcher is like a guided missile. He is the most dangerous, formidable, and smartest version of the character after what he went through last season. He is powerful and he is on a guided track targeting Homelander. He is relentless.”

Of course, Urban has been a key player in the show from the very beginning. As an actor, he’s collected big franchises like Infinity Stones: The Lord of the Rings, Dredd, Star Trek, and soon Mortal Kombat. As for his role as Butcher, he’s proud to have explored such a complex character across several seasons. “It was a great joy to not only work and collaborate with such an extraordinarily talented cast and crew and to work with Eric Kripke and develop the character, but also to have the luxury of time to evolve the character and discover many facets and eccentricities about him,” he added.

Also teasing the finale, Erin Moriarty (Starlight) told The Hollywood Reporter that it’s the strongest instalment of the season — as well as being the most emotional. “It’s a heartbreaking episode,” she said.  “It’s not overtly cynical. When I read the finale as a script, it was my favourite episode this season, as it should be. I think the audience is going to be so immensely satisfied by the finale. I never like to give a resolute prediction like that, and I never have, but I’m saying it now because I have so much excitement and confidence in it.”

The Season 5 finale of The Boys airs on Wednesday, May 20, 2026. Don’t miss it, folks!
